Entry Requirements

1. Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens and meet the requirements stipulated in the JWH [2020] No. 12 Document issued by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. Applicants shall be physically and mentally healthy and willing to abide by the laws and regulations of China and the regulations of Wuhan University.

2. Applicants for a doctoral degree should have a master’s degree or equivalent and be generally no older than 40 years of age.

3. Language Ability

Applicants for Chinese-taught programs shall hold the new HSK level 4 certificate (with scores of 180+). Applicants whose mother tongue is Chinese or who have been taught in Chinese in high school can be exempted from a HSK certificate if approved by Wuhan University.

4. Identity Verification of Ethnic Chinese

If one or both of the applicant’s parents are Chinese, or the applicant has emigrated from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan and acquired foreign nationality, according to the No. 12 Announcement of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (2020), they shall be naturalized for four years or more (before Apr. 30, 2025) and have more than two years of residence in foreign countries during this period (actual residence in a foreign country of more than nine months in a year can be calculated as one year, subject to the entry and exit stamps).

Applicants born in a foreign country are required to meet the above criteria and provide a personal birth certificate and the parents' nationality certificates.

Applicants who have completed the previous studies as international students in China,are not included in this regulation.

General Information
Students are required to complete the curriculum 3 years, fulfill the designated number of credits, conduct research, complete the doctoral thesis and defend it in front of a panel of experts Successful graduates will receive a graduation certificate with the doctoral degree, according to the regulation of the Degree Committee.
One who has failed to meet the academic requirements will be issued a certificate of completion of studies provided this is in conformity with the relevant regulations.

Students who need the Chinese Government scholarship should apply to the Education Commission of China through related governmental department of their respective countries. Self-supporting students should apply directly from the Admission Department of Foreign Students Office.

Recommendation letters from higher or senior professionals in related academic field required for doctor degree applicants.
9. Candidates who have previously studied at a university or college in China should provide behavior records from those institutions as part of their application.

Tips: For applicants who are in China: If you are an employee, you still need to provide employment separation certificate and your current residence permit. If you are a student, you need to provide transfer certificate, leaving certificate, certificate of attendance rate issued by previous school and your current residence permit.
